So, Travis really loves school. Every day I pick him up and ask him how his day was, and he responds, "Great!!"..... with enthusiasm. So I was a little surprised to hear his story today. He was as happy as he always is, told me his day was "great!" as per usual, and then when I asked him what they did today, he proceeded to tell me about recess, and the boy who throws rocks at him. He said this little boy always throws rocks at him when they go to recess (I think they've done it about 4 or 5 days, when it hasn't been rainy). He told me that he always has to hide at recess time to get away from the boy who throws rocks at him. I asked if the boy throws rocks at everyone and he said no, he chases everyone else and roars at them, but that he only throws rocks at Travis. I asked if the teachers saw it and he said, "no, the teachers watch all the other kids but they don't watch me because they know I'm always doing good stuff."
So, we had to handle our first bullying issue. So Travis and Ben and I sat down and talked about what Travis could do in this situation where he wouldn't have to hide, and he wouldn't have to throw rocks back at the kid, but could solve the problem. We decided he should let the teacher know when it happens, and we practiced dealing with it (I got to be the rock-thrower... Ben was the teacher, and I think he was a little bitter about it. He totally wanted to be the bully.) Then we talked about asking the kid to stop throwing rocks to see if that worked. So I told him to try one of those the next time it happened and we'll see where it goes. I think I'll see what happens tomorrow and then see if I need to mention it to the teacher on Wednesday.
The good thing is, Travis didn't seem upset about the issue at all. He said he thinks the little boy throws rocks at him because he (Travis) talks to two little girls about what they are doing. I have no idea if this is accurate at all but it is certainly interesting. But he seems relatively okay with the whole issue, still loves school, and hopefully we can nip this in the bud reasonably easily.
Yesterday, Noah and Travis were jumping and dancing around, and Noah tripped and bonked his forehead square on a speaker. Giant goose egg and bruise. And, of course, we've got family pictures scheduled for Wednesday. This is almost like the time I got a black eye three days before Ben and I got our engagement photo taken. Almost, except Ben didn't cause Noah's injury. In my case, Ben elbowed me during a game of bball at the rec center and knocked me out. (Note that we were on the same team. He's ruthless.) I remember it vividly. It was St. Patrick's Day weekend and everyone else was partying at the bars while I was throwing up at home from a concussion. Ahhh, memories.
You vividly remember that... I thought you were unconscious for at least a few seconds and possible dead, until you woke up and I saw the knot pop out and split your head.
