We started off with some white-knuckle driving, when, two minutes into our trip Ben realizes that we have literally no gas. The display tells us we have "0 miles to empty" and we were several miles from a gas station. So, we partook in some of what my brother-in-law calls "Extreme Driving", otherwise known as coasting thru stop signs, never hitting the brake except in absolute emergencies, etc. Mac would have been proud.
Ahhh, our safe haven.
At the beach party, the kids getting their nametags. "Travis Redbeard", "Surfer Noah", and "Sunkissed Sophie".
The duck pond
Bouncy house
This was Sophie's first bouncy house! She loved it!

She was a natural! Kid's got good balance.
In the "tattoo tiki hut". Here's Travis getting his face painted.
Noah getting inked
His turn for face painting. He looks like he's being forced to do this against his will but I promise, he really did like it.
Sophie was soooooo proud of her flower tattoo.Sunkissed Sophie!
Balloon animal time! Travis's penguin. He named him Pen.
Sophie's flower hat. She loved it.
Noah got a puppy dog. Apparently I neglected to get a picture of it. Here's a reasonable stand-in.
I reminded the kids that balloon toys don't last terribly long. Travis got kind of bummed about that -- guess he'd already bonded with Pen. So I promised him I'd get a picture of him and Pen and post it on the blog so we could always remember it.
Next off to the water playground.
Next off to the water playground.
There's Ben and the kids playing in the fountain squirters.
Travis was quite the water kid. He was darting around here and there and I barely could capture him on camera.
Here he is playing with the lever that controls the spray you see coming out of that tube. He'd totally gotten me with it about 10 minutes before.
Travis down the water slide!
Pulling on the rope shower
Travis playing with Greg, a buddy of his from T-ball. Today was Greg's 6th birthday, his family was having a party for him at the park and we ran into them there. Incidentally, this is the most athletic 6-yr-old I have ever seen, and quite possibly on the planet. Watch this kid, he'll be famous some day.
Noah was a little apprehensive at first.
Eeeek!!
I think I like it ma!
Yep, definitely like it!!
Here's Noah playing with dams and waterfalls
Sophie loved the water playground. She walked around repeatedly singing her "water" song, which goes something like this (to whatever tune you feel like). "Water water water water water Water wa-TER! WATER WATER!"
Okay, so while we're on the subject of Sophie loving things, let me elaborate on her reaction to things that she loves. I was talking about this with Ben on the way home, thinking about Sophie's first time in the bouncy house and how much she adored the water playground. When she gets to experience something she finds fabulous for the first time, her reaction is somewhat different than you might expect. She's not like Noah for instance, whose reaction is pure and utter delight that just beams from his every pore. No, Sophie's reaction is more along the lines of, "Uh, mom, that was awesome. Why on earth have you not done this for me before???!?" She has more of a sense of satisfaction than of delight, like "Finally. All is right with the world. You finally put me in a bouncy house." She's funny that way.
